Mashable’s 2008 Predictions: Mark’s List

December 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Part way through Mark’spredictions I was motivated to set up this blog and this post right away. What prompted this? Getting more into the philosophy and practice of openness, knowledge sharing and knowledge development – and this:

Mark predicts the emergence of partnerships geared to promote user trust and ownership of personal profiles and data in social media. Perhaps APML and OpenID will provide a way for this to happen.

This would be interesting for two reasons. Issues of public concern – privacy and identity authentication – traditional areas of market failure and grounds for regulation – may be resolved in the Open sphere and in the applications layer.

This would be another example of horizontal, modularised business relationships and continued innovation in the applications layer.
